Images of Viêt Nam

While in Viêt Nam, we stayed in the Old Quarter of Hà Nôi and made a few day trips.  We also did some sightseeing and shopping around the city, including the Temple of Literature, a refurbished traditional home known as Memorial House, and the Museum of Ethnology.  Here we are overlooking Lake Hoan Kiem from the Ngoc Son Temple.

Of course, no traveler leaves Hà Nôi without seeing the Water Puppet show at Thang Long Theatre!

A UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) World Heritage site, Halong Bay is "where the dragon descends into the sea."  Several thousand limestone islands arise from green waters, and caves and grottos are formed where the water meets the base of the islands.  Our trip was organized through Handspan Adventure travel (we highly recommend it!) and our tour guide was a vivacious, friendly, amusing woman named Thao, who shared a wealth of information about the sites as well as Vietnamese culture.

As in Lao, rice paddies are often planted, watered, and harvested by hand.
